Rubber & Plastics
Automation for rubber and plastics manufacturing including injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, thermoforming, and rubber compounding systems.
Engineering Service provides turnkey automation engineering for the rubber and plastics industries, addressing the process variability and regulatory constraints characteristic of injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, thermoforming, rubber compounding and vulcanization. The firm engineers PLC/SCADA architectures using Siemens S7-1500 with TIA Portal, Rockwell Automation ControlLogix/Studio 5000, and Beckhoff TwinCAT for soft-motion and synchronized multi-axis control. HMIs and operator stations are deployed with Siemens WinCC, Rockwell PanelView, or AVEVA InTouch, and network layers are designed on EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP and OPC UA for deterministic I/O and MES connectivity (ISA-95). IIoT telemetry via MQTT and historian integration to OSIsoft PI are standard for analytics and OEE dashboards. Typical control solutions include multi-zone PID temperature control for barrel and die zones using Watlow or Eurotherm controllers, closed-loop screw speed and back-pressure control with Siemens Sinamics or Rockwell Kinetix servo drives, and high-resolution pressure and temperature measurement with WIKA and Gems Sensors. In-line quality control is implemented using laser micrometers from Keyence, load cells from Vishay for weight-based control, and in-line beta gauges for thickness. For extrusion and compounding, Engineering Service programs loss-in-weight and gravimetric feeders (e.g., Coperion K-Tron), automated color dosing, recipe-managed purge/changeover sequences, and automated valve logic to reduce scrap and shorten changeover time. Safety, compliance and product traceability are engineered to meet industry standards: functional safety analysis per IEC 61508/IEC 62061, safety-related control design per ISO 13849-1, and electrical enclosures fabricated to UL 508A and CE marking with NFPA 79 compliance for North American installations. For medical and food-contact components the firm supports documentation for FDA traceability and EU MDR where required. Cybersecurity and secure remote access follow IEC 62443 best practices with network segmentation, secure VPNs, role-based access control, MFA-capable GUIs, and audit logging compatible with enterprise SIEM. Material handling and robotic automation integrate ABB, FANUC, KUKA and Yaskawa manipulators for in-mold labeling (IML), pick-and-place, degating and insert molding cells. Vision systems from Cognex and Keyence are integrated for OCR traceability, sprue/flash detection and dimensional inspection. Motion control architectures include centralized motion controllers with hardware cams for repeatable timing, and soft camming for complex synchronization. Engineering Service’s delivery model spans control system design, UL-certified panel fabrication, FAT/SAT, site commissioning, advanced process tuning, operator training and lifecycle support including predictive maintenance programs and spare parts rostering. PLC code is developed per IEC 61131-3 best practices and documented for deterministic change management to ensure consistent part quality, reduced cycle times and measurable OEE improvements.
